Information
On a hot sunny July day, Diane Murdock welcomed many tan and summer-enjoying Roseville Rotarians back from their 4th of July Holiday. We were also greeted by special music provided by Ron Sieman of "Sweet Pea" helped by our own Roseville Rotarians, Dennis Hunt and our incoming president, Gayland Bender.
Outgoing President Patti Dalen called the meeting to order with the singing of "America the Beautiful" to start us off. Glen Schwartz led the flag pledge, Jerry Showalter led the invocation. Bill Peterson introduced Visiting Rotarians and Guests.
Aaron Titze gave us the News and Good News. Rotary's contribution to the world community was recognized recently at a special meeting of top service organizations held at the White House. Our just past Rotary International President, Frank Devlin, was honored for his outstanding service. Another note of very good news was the presentation of a check for $500.00 from our club to the St. Croix Valley Girl Scouts with member Becky Enos accepting the gift on behalf of the Girl Scouts. Another happy announcement is that Kristen Moore will be the District 5960 Ambassadorial Scholar this year to London.
Our 2000-2001 President, Patti Dalen addressed the club for one final time. Since this was a special meeting we also honored Active members with perfect attendance. This is especially impressive since 3 members have 31 years of perfect attendance:

Past Presidents of the club and District Leaders were also honored. Patti had an exciting and productive year, welcoming in 12 new Rotarians and ending in the black! Patti gave us a presentation with pictures and factoids of this past fun and prosperous year in Rotary. Next Patti introduced her board, each member contributed of himself or herself over the year showing true Rotary spirit and leadership. Jim Ostlund, Past President, negotiated the location change among many other things such as being active on Membership, LRP and Youth Exchange committees, Gayland Bender, President Elect, took the reigns as needed and did an excellent ob coordinating speakers, developing our travel display and using digital photography to enhance our fellowship. Bruce Weber, now an Honorary Member, served as Treasurer for 16 years! Through his excellent stewardship, we have had one of our best financial years and his heart still remains with us as he coaches Tom Johnson to take his place. Lynnae LeBarron, Secretary, scheduled the meeting helpers each week and coordinated the application for the RI Presidential Citation. Diane Murdock headed "Fund" Raising for the Rose Sale and our most successful Auction and "Fun" Raising, at the Christmas and Theatre Parties, and "Friend" raising with the cross-country ski party and the women's hot tub party at Matlock's. Marv Sorvala headed Club Service 2 with a very aggressive membership program and a power point program to send to new and prospective members. Marv also chaired the highway clean-up event. Aaron Titze, Community Service Chair, coordinated the Little Brothers Picnic, Dare Bike-A-Thon, and continuously entertained and informed us with the News and Good News each week, supervising the distribution of $4500 to community causes. Dan Wall, Vocational Service, sponsored Rotation Day, and fielded Camp Enterprise for two students. Thanks also to Don Craighead for his ongoing efforts with the Twin City Rotaract Club. Jeanne Matlock, International Service, worked with in-bound students and various international projects such as GSE Africa and Scholar applications, opening her lovely home to our group for a cross country ski party and women's hot tub event! Finally, we have Jingle who keeps it all glued together and running smoothly through our transition to email communication.
President Gayland addressed the group. He thanked his sponsor, Bob Rosene, for giving him the opportunity to join Rotary and past President Patti Dalen for her leadership. Gayland then introduced his wife, Carolyn, sitting in the audience. Gayland covered some of the impressive accomplishments of our club over the years since it was chartered. We have chartered 8 new clubs, sponsored the Dare Bike-A-Thon for 10 years, participated in the initiation of a 5013C for healthy youth and community activities, given annually the largest amount to The Rotary Foundation in the district and chartered the Twin Cities Rotaract Club.
Rotary is in the Business of Mankind and service is our product. Our new International President has this as his slogan. Many Rotarians join for one reason and stay active and committed for another one. Gayland outlined 20 reasons why to become a Rotarian. Often people join for friendship and business development and for many more reasons such as personal growth and development, continuing education, fun, public speaking skills, travel and international citizenship opportunities, cultural awareness, opportunities to serve, and community activity sponsorship. Gayland also mentioned that in his travels as a Roseville Rotarian people outside of our club say the kindest and most complimentary things about our group and the good it generates. We all need to keep in mind that we are members of a premier Rotary Club!
Gayland's goals are to develop a signature project to raise awareness of Rotary locally and to continue our focus internationally to promote world understanding and peace. His challenge to each of us is to offer the opportunity of Rotary to at least one new member this coming year. He urges us to share the story of Rotary with others. Thank you Gayland for a motivational and interesting inaugural address and to Patti Dalen for her outstanding team and leadership in the Rotary year just past. We are all privileged to know and learn from such a fine organization as Roseville Rotary.
